INHP Community Breakfast
Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership [INHP] hosted one of their largest crowds on record at the annual INHP Community Breakfast. After outgrowing their space at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown, organizers had to scramble quickly to move the popular breakfast event to the Indiana Convention Center's Sagamore Ballroom just days before. President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Charles Evans, delivered the keynote address bringing community leaders, INHP supporters, and guests together to celebrate INHP’s mission and commitment to Indianapolis neighborhoods and families seeking long-term, successful homeownership. This year's INHP Community Breakfast was presented by State Farm and Lilly Endowment Inc. with additional support provided in part by M&I Bank, Citizens Energy Group, Indianapolis Foundation [a CICF affiliate], and Charles Schwab & Co.

Indianapolis City Ballet Reception
In celebration of Indianapolis City Ballet's upcoming An Evening with the Stars Gala on September 11, G. Thrapp Jewelers in Indianapolis hosted a special reception for supporters and helped the organization raise funds by offering special purchase incentives with a percentage being donated back to the ICB, a new premier-ballet organization that debuted in 2009. The upcoming gala is one of ORG Magazine's most anticipated events in the Arts season, especially for those who think "they don't like ballet." It's an "incredible visual experience" says Brad Haberman, publisher of Indianapolis ORG Magazine. For more information about the ICB, other pre-gala receptions or An Evening with the Stars, visit www.Indianapoliscityballet.org. Photos by Ellen Greenleaf.

Bowling Burger Bash
USAC Midgets driver, Dillon Welch, hosted more than 150 friends and numerous local celebrities during his first celebrity bowling tournament in Indianapolis to help raise funds for the Fellowship of Chrisitan Athletes. "My faith is important to me," Welch said.  "FCA does so much to help people my age; people with similar passions about their faith and their athletics. It means a lot to me that I'm able to use racing to do something to help them." The Bowling Burger Bash [presented by Z-Line Designs] included one game of regular bowling and one game of cosmic bowling at Woodland Bowl on Indy's north side, followed by dinner, awards, and an auction at 96th Street Steakburgers. Some of the celebrity participants included legendary bowler, Mike Aulby [who happened to bowl a perfect 300 game during the tournament], IndyCar driver Ed Carpenter, and local media personalities Anne Marie Tiernon, Chris Hagan, Rich Nye, and Dave Furst. The IU Cheerleading Squad was also present to help cheer on bowlers, hand out special prizes, and add a personal touch in promoting a variety of silent auction items. The Burger Bowling Bash  was sponsored in part by Merrill Lynch, Indiana University, Windsor Jewelery and Brownsburg Muffler & Service Center. Summerfest with BBBSCI
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana rallied the troops to help with their largest Summerfest yet, as more than 1,500 Bigs and Littles [and their immediate families, respectively] gathered at Military Park for the 26th annual day of family frolic. "It's the one event where we include the entire family," says BBBSCI President & CEO, Tonja Eagan.
Summerfest is a [private] celebration of the mentor/mentee relationship indeed, but it was far more than just fun and games for those who attended this year. Numerous community organizations [such as FitCity, Paws and Think, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful] and event sponsors [including St. Vincent Health/Peyton Manning Children's Hospital and Anthem] joined in the festival to add some educational, interactive flavor to the never-ending menu of kids activities. Also on that menu was Juggs Catering's famous fried chicken with biscuits and apple butter....and, of course, there was PIZZA!
So why is such an effort given to throw a celebratory "family reunion?" Because supporting the entire "infrastructure" of the mentor/mentee relationship is a crucial ingredient in the ongoing success of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana and the overall mentoring process. During a brief time out from bouncy-house patrol, Eagan shared these impressive outcomes of a typical 12 to 18 month [minimum] mentoring relationship. "Approximately 49% of Littles earn a degree [they don't just attend college, they finish!]...and 46% of Littles have an average household income of $75,000 as adults."

Saks Fifth Avenue Charity Kickoff Reception
Representatives from five local charity organizations gathered at the Indianapolis Saks Fifth Avenue in early August to kick off a three-month promotional event called "I'm Going To Saks For My Favorite Charity." Saks Fifth Avenue credit card holders can now register their card in the promotion and any in-store purchases made during the three month period will generate proceeds, equivalent to 10% of the total sale, for the selected charity organization. Participating organizations include the Junior League of Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Chapter of The Links, Women's Fund of Central Indiana, Indiana Children's Wish Fund, and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. The promotion excludes purchases made online or purchases at other retailers using the Saks Fifth Avenue Mastercard [additional restrictions may apply]. This promotion is not to be confused with the 4-day Saks Fifth Avenue Key to the Cure event in October, in partnership with St. Vincent Hospitals.

Jeff Gordon Celebrity Bowling Tournament
Jeff Gordon and his NASCAR friends rolled into town for the Brickyard 400 in July, but before taking to the famous oval, Jeff and friends helped raise money for Riley Hospital for Children during Jeff's annual Celebrity Bowling Tournament at Western Bowl. From Pink Ladies and poodle skirts to burgers and brew, tournament participants [including NASCAR drivers, corporate teams and other celebrities] enjoyed a laid-back afternoon of food and fun, all for a great cause. During the event, individuals from Village Pantry were onsite to present their largest annual [cash] gift to-date for the cause, but the fundraising didn't stop there. The event also featured a popular silent auction sporting plenty of Gordon memorabilia and other sports collectibles.

INHP Block Party
The Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership (INHP) finished up a month-long community campaign in June to bring their message and services to communities around central Indiana during the INHP Block Parties. The University of Indianapolis hosted the last of four block parties where nearby individuals and families could participate in the community event featuring numerous partner companies and organizations offering valuable information and services for those pursuing home ownership. It wasn't all business, however. Families were able to take advantage of numerous childrens activities, perfect block-party treats [hot dogs, popcorn, beverages], and even some live entertainment. Although the organization sponsored the event independently, several companies stepped up to support the month-long campaign including Harris Bank and Chase.
